I had the pleasure of meeting Doug in Los Angeles in the 1980's. I went up to a table of people who had just finished eating supper because I had to speak to one of them briefly. Another fellow at the table held up a plate of cookies. I accepted one and thanked him, then did a double-take and exclaimed: "Oh, WOW! You're DOUG HENNING!" It was so dumb; everybody laughed. :^)
Later that evening I carried a suitcase up to Doug's room and he autographed a book for me. My impression of Doug was that he was every bit the smiling, warm, and joyful person that he appeared to be in public.
Rest in peace, man. I still can't believe you checked out so soon, but I know you went to a better place. People are praying down here to send you on your way.
