The world has lost the greatest magician of all time. Doug Henning was a very special celebrity to me because he was a philosopher/magician with a message. He was not about egotism or arrogance like other leading magicians; and that was what made him such a refreshing celebrity, his humility. It was as if he was a disciple of God, on earth to spread a message and do a mission. His message was of course that through enlightenment, all things are possible. And he was always clear about his mission--to fill the audience with a child-like sense of wonder.
The most exciting moment in my life was watching him perform in person. I saw his show 3 times in Memphis, Tennessee in 1981 when I was 14 years old. My favorite line of his is, "the incredible will become credible, the unimaginable will become imaginable, and of course the impossible will become not only possible, but probable." My favorite illusions of his are "Things that go Bump in the Night" and "Metamorphosis".
